Cyprus is an island with a very long holiday season. At the time of writing, it’s early November. In the UK the first snow has already fallen (albeit disappearing again in hours), you need a coat when you go out and of course the rain just keeps coming down.
Cyprus is still enjoying temperatures in the [...]

I’m no old car fanatic, but it does amaze me some of the old relics you find gently rusting away in Cyprus. On this occasion I stopped to photograph an old Land Rover, and just as I was getting back into my car, saw another old vehicle slumbering under some trees.
Initially I didn’t recognise it. [...]

Situated in Agios Georgios on the corner of the turning to the Akamas and Lara, the Sunset Family Restaurant is well worth a visit.
Sure you can eat a full meal – including the freshest of fish – or you can just stop for a sandwich as we did.
The welcome was the warmest and the service [...]

The hillsides around Polemi and Stroumbi in Paphos Region are covered in vineyards. It’s a terrific place to walk in the country at any time of the year, but in autumn the golden colours of the vines add a real vibrancy to the countryside.
Autumn temperatures are still very pleasant – in fact probably the most [...]

The Avakas Gorge is a stunning natural feature quite unlike anything else in Cyprus. A small river has cut a deep, steep-sided gorge through the rocks as the water flows off the high ground near Arodes on its way to the sea. Grand Canyon it isn’t – fascinating it is.
For a long time the Akamas [...]

Right in the bustling heart of Kato Paphos, the Mandra Tavern is opposite the Dionysos Hotel in Dionysiou Street.
This one’s an old favourite of ours. The ‘Mandra’ bit comes about from the building’s former use as an agricultural outbuilding. Despite the history, the Mandra today is a good restaurant, even if it is unashamedly targeting the [...]

The Laterna Restaurant is located on Apollonos in Kato Paphos. Just off the famous Bar Street. Take the little road opposite Bubbles Bar, Laterna is just on the right hand side. It’s just metres from the noise and fun of Bar Street, but a million miles in every other way.
The Laterna Restaurant is a family [...]

At 9-11 Constantias Road, Kato Paphos – just a few metres from Bar Street, Othellos was a bit of a discovery. Close enough to Bar Street for us to find it – far enough away for it to have to try that little bit harder to get customers.
We were taken by the Cypriot menu that [...]

‘Must’ – nothing special – but expensive for what it is!
On Tombs of the Kings Road in Kato Paphos, ‘Must’ is in the heart of the tourist area and clearly sets its sights on serving that market.
The welcome was friendly enough, but it took an age to get our late breakfast/lunch. Our choice wasn’t the [...]

With the demise of XL Airways, choices of flights to Cyprus have got more difficult. So for this trip we tried a scheduled flight with Monarch.
Scheduled flights from regional airports
Offering scheduled flights to Larnaca from Gatwick, Luton and Manchester several times a week, Monarch looked like a good alternative to Cyprus Airways and British Airways [...]
