After the fun of the morning’s action, deciding what to do with the afternoon wasn’t so easy.
I didn’t want to risk the long hike back to SS14 for tarmac shots. SS16 didn’t start until about half an hour before sunset, so that only left SS15.
The second day of the Cyprus Rally 2010 didn’t start well for me.
My plan was to go to the day’s first stage – SS9 Alassa 1 – but it didn’t work out that way.
Sure I got there, but it wasn’t for me. I went to the village of Agios Therapon. After the lack of crowds the day before, I wasn’t prepared for the throng I found.
I really wanted to pack one more special stage of the Cyprus Rally 2010 into the day, so after my tarmac experience with the first pass of the Agioi Vavatsinias stage, I studied the map carefully to find another way in for its afternoon re-run.
For the afternoon’s three special stages of the first day of the Cyprus Rally 2010 I tried to find different positions to get variety into my pictures.
The first afternoon stage – SS5 Kalavassos 2 – yielded a brilliant position. And it fell right into my lap.
I was driving the main road parallel to the stage when I spotted three 4x4s driven by locals heading off down a non-descript looking track. On a hunch, I followed them…
After watching the majority of the cars pass through SS2 – Kalavassos 1 I headed up further into the hills to watch SS4 – Agioi Vavatsinias 1 – 17.31 km of winding mountain track.
