Cyprus covers an area of 9,250 square kilometres, has a population of circa 792,000 with a GDP of $46,900 per capita.

Cyprus joined the European Union on 1 May 2004

No visas are required for entry into Cyprus by nationals of most European countries. Nationals of other countries should check first.

The import, possession and use of narcotics and psychotropic substances are strictly prohibited by law.

The currency of the Republic is the Euro. Banks in Cyprus are open 08:30 – 13:00 Monday to Friday. ATM machines are widespread and operate 24/7.

Electric sockets are of a UK-style.

Visitors should respect ecclesiastic traditions and avoid wearing shorts and sleeveless garments in churches and monasteries.

Driving is on the left side of the road. Many petrol stations are equipped with automatic pumps that operate 24/7 and accept notes and credit cards.
