Coffee shops - not to be missed. Sure you get coffee - and a whole Cypriot experience!

Coffee shops - not to be missed. Sure you get coffee - and a whole Cypriot experience!

Top tip for you.  Get away from Paphos.  Go to a village coffee shop.  And leave yourself plenty of time!

In our village you’ve got a choice.  A little caff run by some ex-pat Brits.  And at least two traditional Cypriot coffee shops.

The caff run by the Brits is fine.  It’s got a menu you’ll instantly recogise. It’s got a warm welcome. And it’s prices are at least three times those in the Cypriot coffee shops.

You can fly to Paphos from many airports in the UK

Let’s share our experiences of flying to Paphos from the UK.

A Walk with Aphrodite by Peter Breakwell. Out of print, but well worth seeking out.

Interestingly Cyprus is reputed to be one of the most mapped places in the world – a throwback to the troubles of 1974 and the subsequent work to establish exactly who owns what.

Divided Cyprus, edited by Yiannis Papadakis, Nicos Peristianis and Gisela Welz

Divided Cyprus, edited by Yiannis Papadakis, Nicos Peristianis and Gisela Welz

Not a light read, but a very informative one!

The volatile recent past of Cyprus has turned this island from the idyllic “Island of Aphrodite” of tourist literature into a place renowned for hostile confrontations.

Cyprus challenges familiar binary divisions, between Christianity and Islam, Greeks and Turks, Europe and the East, tradition and modernity.
