Caves in Kato Paphos decorated with religious artifacts

Paphos comes in two distinct parts; Kato Paphos being the bit beside the sea, Ktima Paphos being the old town perched on a hill. The divide between the two is an escarpment – at places quite a steep cliff.

Into this cliff there are caves in a number of places. They’re all a bit spooky, in different ways.  Many are used for religious purposes, though for what religion isn’t clear.

Getting back out into the sunshine, the walk along beside the escarpment is good, especially to the east of the Kato Paphos bypass.  The rock formations are pretty interesting, and the peace and quiet is a million miles from the bustle of Paphos.  As you walk along, look out for shapes that remind you of things.

Lady in red - the Alfa Romeo Giulia Super 1.3 in Kato Paphos

My wife’s always had a thing about Alfas.  She reckons they’re sexy.

So the squeal of delight as we drove through Kato Paphos wasn’t she’d won the lottery, it was she’d seen an old Alfa.

The Laterna Restaurant - a traditional welcome and cooking - a delight!

The Laterna Restaurant is located on Apollonos in Kato Paphos.

Just off the famous Bar Street, take the little road opposite Bubbles Bar, Laterna is just on the right hand side.  It’s just metres from the noise and fun of Bar Street, but a million miles in every other way.

The Laterna Restaurant is a family run delight serving good, honest Cypriot cooking.  There’s always the warmest of welcomes and you’re made to feel like an appreciated guest.  If you go back, you’re welcomed like a long lost member of the family!

Othello's Tavern in Kato Paphos - definitely worth a visit

Othello's Tavern in Kato Paphos - definitely worth a visit

At 9-11 Constantias Road, Kato Paphos – just a few metres from Bar Street, Othellos was a bit of a discovery.

Close enough to Bar Street for us to find it – far enough away for it to have to try that little bit harder to get customers.

We were taken by the Cypriot menu that included enough choices (including vegetarian) to satisfy a diverse range of tastes.
