Although this blog is almost a year old i have found it very informative for us as we plan to go to Cyprus in November this year. We have been in both August and March, August was so very hot, March was lovely, a little windy but sunny and warm, very chilly in the evenings but thats not a problem if you take a light jacket and a small brolly in case it rains. All in all we love Cyprus and are looking forward to going back again.

Hi,

It is very complex problem for Cyprus. There are a lot of beautiful lakes inside Cyprus and same of them are destroyed. For example Lefkara! It was very big lake, and very old. There were a lot of fish in that lake, and all population died! That’s how they take care about their lakes and water. Of course it is much easier to store water in big ships near Limassol.

Hopefully in future they will solve that problem. I heard that Turkey is going to build pipes to Lebanon or Iran, I don’t remember. And that pipe will go through Cyprus. Hope it will be soon!

Used to visit Cyprus in Spring, but last visit in April 2008 was disappointing because the wetlands around Akrotiri were very dry, in particular Phassoui reedbeds. Also other previously good areas were short of water. Recognise Cyprus had a severe water shortage last year and wonder what the effects have been on 2009. Is there an improvement, because understand reservoir levels are still low.
Would appreciate your comments. Thanks.

Hi Adam

I don't know about red nose vipers - that's not something I've ever heard about in Cyprus!

The only snake that's considered trouble here is the blunt nosed viper. If you get bitten by one, seek medical help, rapidly.

Having said that, I think it's pretty unlikely you'll even see a snake, let alone get killed by one. The facts are only one person has died as a result of a snake in Cyprus in the last ten years.

Bear in mind also that snakes are pretty wary of humans. If they know you're around, they'll leg it. Well, slither it actually! If you do come across one (and we've only done so twice) keep out of its way and it'll certainly keep out of yours.

Enjoy your holiday and relax, Cyprus is a beautiful island.
