Today was the Adonis Rally in Cyprus. Â Run through the delightful Paphos Forest, local competitors had a great thrash along the mountain tracks in powerful cars.
The Adonis Rally used three special stages, each run twice to give a full day’s rallying. Â The six special stages totaled 106.22km Â - a challenge that reduced the number of competitors as the day progessed.
The rally started from Paphos at 9.30am and finished back a Paphos at 5.30pm. Â A total of 23 competitors entered, reduced by the rough mountain tracks to just 12 by Special Stage 5.
Closely fought to the very end, the Adonis Rally was won byÂ Costas Zinonos and George Alexandrou drivingÂ a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9 with a total time of 1 hour 47 minutes and 44 seconds. Â They put up the fastest times on five of the six special stages.
Second place went toÂ Savva Savvas and Andreas Papandreou driving aÂ Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9. Â They finished just 48 seconds behindÂ Costas Zinonos and George Alexandrou, and were fastest on Special Stage 4.
Third place went toÂ Michalis Posidias and Phanos Christofi driving a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 10. Â They finished just 20 seconds behind second placedÂ Â Savva Savvas and Andreas Papandreou.
