Snow in Cyprus. Paphos Forest above the village of Panagia from Polemi in Paphos District. March 2011

This morning, I saw snow for the first time in Cyprus.  It’s our third winter in Cyprus, so I’m guessing this is unusual.

The picture was taken from Polemi and shows what’s called Paphos Forest – the foothills of the Troodos Mountains.  The snow covered ridge is above the village of Panagia and rises to about 2,400 feet (730m).

Bear in mind this is March 10th – usually well into spring in Cyprus!

Snow is of course very common in the higher parts of the Troodos Mountains that rise up to 6,404 feet (1,952 metres) at the top of Mount Olympus.  You can even ski up there.  See for yourself at the Troodos webcam.
