Hiring a motor boat at Latchi in Cyprus is a great fun way of exploring the rugged Akamas coastline and not to be missed.
There’s a number of places around the harbour at Latchi where you can rent boats – we’ve always been to Latchi Watersports.
As a tourist (or a local!) you can turn up with your driving licence and half an hour later be skimming across the waves in your rented motor boat.
The Akamas coastline west of Latchi is a delight. There’s lots of small bays virtually inaccessible by land where you can drop anchor and swim, snorkel or just laze in the sun.
Boats for hire range in power from 40hp to 140hp – so you can either take it gently or go carve up the waves.
You can hire a boat at Latchi for an hour right up to a full day. A 40hp boat will cost you around €45 to hire for an hour or €135 to hire for a day.
The rental cost of the boat excludes fuel – expect about €5 to €10 per hour depending on the power of the boat (and how much you drive it at full power!).
Before you set out from Latchi, you’ll be given a full briefing on how to handle the boat and the Akamas coastline. There are a few reefs to avoid, but all that is explained.
All the ‘stuff’ you might need to enjoy your boat is available. You’ll be given life jackets, a radio, snorkels, masks and a coolbox if you want it.
As a family outing, we rate renting a boat from Latchi as one of the best days out in Cyprus.
