Paphos
In antiquity Paphos – or as the locals spell it – Pafos – was the centre of the cult of Aphrodite and is today a bustling holiday resort.
The town is in two parts, ‘Ktima’ being the upper area and the true town centre; ‘Kato’ being the lower area by the beach and harbour and the place the tourists come for. It combines a pleasant harbour and medieval fort, historical sites and spectacular countryside. It was the capital of Cyprus for 600 years in ancient times and its archaeological legacy is such that UNESCO put the whole town on its World Cultural Heritage List.
There’s lots to see and do – by day and by night. Ponder the long history or go wild on Bar Street – with everything in between.
